Practice Description - Sheilagh is an arbitrator and mediator. Her mediation services include mediation in the context of a broader dispute resolution framework or as a stand-alone mediation. She has particular expertise in labour and employment law, including human rights and disability insurance claims. She also has broad experience with professional discipline and governance issues. Sheilagh is open to engaging with parties in mediation in the many unique issues that may arise in matters arising out of or peripheral to workplaces, professions and human rights.
Background - Sheilagh is a senior member of the Ontario bar. Prior to starting an arbitration and mediation practice, she was in private practice with a prominent labour and public law firm in Toronto. In that practice, Sheilagh was a labour, administrative law and civil litigator with over 25years of hearing experience before tribunals and courts. She also advised with expertise in areas of workplace policies, professional regulation and governance. She is knowledgeable and familiar with a full gamut of issues that arise in labour and employment law settings, from contract
interpretation to employment-related statutes, and to the many legal and practical threads making up the fabrics of workplaces. Her broad and extensive experience means she also is equipped to understand and address the inevitable range of employment issues that have no precedent.
Sheilagh has worked with parties in small and large private business settings and wider public institutional settings. She has presented and trained on a range of legal issues. She is the author of various published articles and was an author of Education Labour and Employment Law for 16 years.
Through peer recognition, Sheilagh was included within Best Lawyers in Labour and Employment Law as early as 2010.
