| Practice Description - | Michael has been a full time mediator and arbitrator for the last ten years. His practice is in employment related disputes including labour, employment, dismissal, and human rights. He mediates and adjudicates disputes in both the private and public sectors. In mediation, he relies upon his broad legal experience in the practice of labour and employment law to assist parties to find creative mediated solutions. |
| Background - | Michael had over 40 years of practice experience in all aspects of labour and employment law. Throughout his career as counsel, he acted for trade unions, employees, and employers, before all labour tribunals and the Courts. He was regularly recognized in the Lexpert Directory and in Best Lawyers in Canada for both labour relations and employment law. Most recently he was the senior partner in the labour and employment practice at a large national law firm and served for many years as the head of that department. He is on the federal government's approved list of grievance arbitrators and convenes hearings and issues decisions on cases involving the Canada Labour Code. He is also a named arbitrator in a number of collective agreements. Following the conclusion of his active law practice, he served part-time as the legal member on tribunals of the Consent and Capacity Board where he convened hearings and issued decisions under a number of Provincial Statutes, including the Mental Health Act. |
