Practice Description - Called to the bar in 2002, Jennifer Egsgard has been mediating contract, commercial, insurance, employment, personal injury, product liability and other disputes since 2018. Advocates who have used Jennifer as a mediator have said that she has:

Background - Jennifer’s legal career included 6 years practicing commercial litigation in Toronto at Fasken, and 7 years as a partner with Sills Egsgard LLP. She represented clients in diverse sectors including real estate, energy, insurance, technology, advertising, hospitality, sports, transport, construction, mining, not for profit, retail and manufacturing. She acted as counsel for plaintiffs and defendants in many kinds of disputes including breach of contract, wrongful dismissal, personal injury, product liability, unjust enrichment, nuisance, defamation, occupier’s liability, misrepresentation, landlord/tenant, procurement, director’s liability, estates, environmental liability, immigration detention/appeals, private international, refugee, international trade and energy law. She has also advised clients on anti-corruption law compliance and corporate social responsibility.

She completed the Mediating Commercial Disputes program at Harvard Law School's executive education program, and the Mediator Skills Training course at CEDR. Her early training involved shadowing leading commercial mediators in Canada, the UK, and the US. She is a frequent speaker at professional organizations, such as the American Bar, Ontario Bar and Canadian Corporate Counsel Associations, International Academy of Mediators, UK Judicial Liasion Committee, UK Department of Justice, in-house legal teams of large organizations, Scottish Mediators, Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada and various law schools, often on topics related to mediation and dispute resolution.

Jennifer is currently a Member-at-Large Practice Group leader for the Advocates’ Society Arbitration & Mediation Advocacy Practice Group, and has lead several major multi-section initiatives within the Ontario Bar Association. Jennifer is committed to ongoing mediation skill development and regularly attends mediation conferences in Canada and elsewhere via the International Academy of Mediators, a membership organization of leading commercial mediators with whom she also organizes and attends monthly professional development webinars.

She worked with CEDR in the UK developing a framework for early resolution of complex transnational ESG, including business and human rights-related, stakeholder grievances.

Jennifer appreciates working with people of different backgrounds, having grown up in a small Ontario town, and later living in London, NYC, Wash. DC, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Switzerland, Toronto and India.
