| Practice Description - | As a Mediator/Mediator-Arbitrator/Adjudicator, I specialize in employment, workplace, negotiation, and labour matters, including disability-related disputes. As a nurse, I have expertise in health care, labour, nursing issues, administration, and senior leadership/corporate governance. As a Mediator/Mediator-Arbitrator/Adjudicator, I specialize in employment, workplace and labour matters, conducting mediations for grievances, disputes or notices of occurrence, labour negotiations, interest arbitration, employment matters, health and safety, pay equity, and pensions and benefits, including disability benefits. I accept OLRA Section 50 Med-Arb appointments and other Med-Arb appointments. I provide mediation utilizing a variety of styles depending on the situation and the parties’ desires. I also provide neutral facilitation for workplace conflict management, dispute resolution, negotiation and relationship-building. I am an experienced third-party, neutral workplace assessor, restorer, and investigator focused on providing impartial, objective, fact-based, legally defensible, humane, time-sensitive, trauma-informed, and discreet investigations. I have experience as an internal investigator in a unionized setting. I have extensive knowledge and experience in the public, non-profit and healthcare sectors. My services are available either in person at locations agreed by the parties or virtually. |
| Background - | I commenced Mathers Workplace Conflict Resolution in July 2022. I have been contracted since November 2022 as the Midwifery Facilitator/Mediator by the Ontario Ministry of Health to facilitate the Ministry and the Association of Midwives to negotiate a new service agreement (for three successive service agreements). I began my career as a Registered Nurse, becoming a healthcare labour leader and then Chief Executive Officer. I have worked in many capacities at the Ontario Nurses’ Association including Labour Relations Officer, Manager, Negotiations, Senior Director, Labour Relations and Chief Executive Officer. I obtained a diploma in Registered Nursing from Seneca College; a Bachelor of Arts in Labour Studies from McMaster University; a mediation certificate from the University of Guelph; a Master of Arts from Royal Roads University in Organizational Conflict and Management; and a certificate in Leadership Excellence from Queen’s University. I have completed: Workplace Investigations Training and Certificate Program, Workplace Health and Fairness Assessments, Workplace Restoration and Mediation-Arbitration Training to formalize and update my expertise. During my long career in labour relations, I have acted in various capacities as a neutral, the union and an employer, giving me a unique perspective. I maintain my qualifications as a Chartered Mediator, Registered Nurse, mediator, workplace investigator and workplace fairness assessor. I am a member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario and the ADR Institute of Ontario and Canada. |
| Fees - | $1500 plus expenses and HST for half-day; $2500 plus expenses and HST for full eight-hour day including prep time. Additional hours $350 per hour or part thereof. No charge for travel within 50 km of home or Bayfield, Ontario from May 1 to October 31, CRA mileage thereafter. |
